Scram

Scram is a darts duel in two innings. One player closes numbers while the other piles up points on whatever is still open. Then the roles swap, and the second scorer has to pass the first total.

  • You against a friend, a team or a bot
  • One stopper, one scorer, then swap
  • 1 to 20 and the bull, or only the Cricket numbers
  • Close with one hit or with three marks
  • Unrated, just for fun

One visit per role, as the app shows it. Anna is the stopper and closes the 17, the 16 and the 11: they go dark on the board and are struck out below. Ben scores on what is still open. His treble 15 and his 25 count, the dart in the 17 scores nothing.

The rules

How Scram darts works

Two players take turns, one visit each. Your role decides what a dart is worth. If you know Cricket, closing numbers will feel familiar.

  1. The stopper throws firstThe player who starts the leg is the stopper. Every number the stopper hits is closed, whether single, double or treble. The bull counts as one more number, so there are 21 targets.
  2. The scorer takes what is leftAfter each stopper visit, the scorer throws for points on the numbers that are still open. Doubles and trebles count in full, the 25 and the bullseye too. A dart on a closed number scores nothing.
  3. All closed, roles swapThe inning ends the moment the stopper has closed every number. The board opens up again, the scorer becomes the stopper and throws first.
  4. The second scorer chases the totalAs soon as the second scorer passes the first total, the leg is over. If the stopper closes everything first, the higher total still wins, and the same total is a drawn leg.

An example leg

Two innings, one chase

Anna starts the leg, so she stops first. The tiles show the numbers as the app draws them under the turn panel: bright while open, struck out once closed.

Anna needs nine rounds to close all 21 targets. Every dart Ben lands on an open number counts in full, so he ends the inning on 212.

    Anna scored215

Now Ben closes and Anna scores. Her treble 12 takes her past 212 with twelve numbers still open, and the leg is over on the spot.

Why the stopper matters as much as the scorer: every visit the stopper needs is another visit for the scorer. A stopper who closes three numbers a visit keeps the other total low, and that total is what they have to pass later.

Setting · To close a number

One hit or three marks

How much it takes the stopper to close a number, and with it how long each inning lasts:

  • One hitDefault
    1. 20
    2. 19
    3. 18
    4. 17
    5. 16
    6. 15
    7. Bull
    • To close a number 1 hit

Any dart on a number closes it, single, double or treble. This is the classic, and the stopper gets through the board quickly.

  • Three marksLike Cricket
    1. 20
    2. 19
    3. 18
    4. 17
    5. 16
    6. 15
    7. Bull
    • To close a number 3 marks

A single is one mark, a double two, a treble three, the bullseye two. Closing takes longer, so the scorer gets more visits.

Setting · Numbers

The whole board or the Cricket numbers

The numbers in play light up on the board. The fewer there are, the quicker a leg goes.

  • 1–20 + BullDefault
    • Numbers 1–20 + Bull

The classic. With 21 targets an inning takes a while and the totals get big.

  • 15–20 + BullQuicker
    • Numbers 15–20 + Bull

The Cricket numbers. Seven targets, so an inning is over after a few rounds.

Rounds per inning: off by default, so an inning runs until every number is closed. Set a limit of 7, 10 or 15 rounds and the inning also ends after the scorer’s last visit of that round. It keeps a game short when the bull just won’t go in.

In the game

What you see on screen

The turn panel takes the colour of the role at the oche: amber for the stopper, green for the scorer.

  • The big number counts the numbers still open while you stop. While you score, it shows your points.
  • Stopper and scorer sit side by side under the panel, with the player at the oche lit. Each player card carries its role as a tag.
  • The number tiles show every target of the game. Closed ones are struck out, and the ones your visit just closed or scored on stand out.
  • The dartboard lights up the numbers that are still open, and the dart chips say what each dart did: “closed”, “+57” or “already closed”.
  • In the second inning the line under the panel tells the scorer how many points are still needed to pass. When the roles swap, “Roles swap” comes up in large letters.

Setup

Start a game

Open Party & duels in the game setup and pick Scram. Everything else is set up like a normal match, as described in How to play.

  • PlayersExactly two sides at this board. Play a friend or a bot at your level. A bot closes the big numbers first and scores on the best treble that is still open.
  • TeamsWith three players or more, Sridu makes two teams. Each team is one side: it stops or scores together, and its players take turns visit by visit.
  • Numbers1–20 + Bull (the default) or 15–20 + Bull. See the whole board or the Cricket numbers.
  • To close a number1 hit (the default) or 3 marks. See one hit or three marks.
  • Rounds per inningNone (the default), 7, 10 or 15.
  • HandicapsPer player: a head start in points, or the lowest numbers already closed whenever that player stops (1–2, 1–4 or 1–6, with the Cricket numbers 15 up to 15–17).
  • LegsOne leg, first to 2, first to 3 or more. The players take turns starting a leg, so each leg opens with the other stopper.
  • Who throws firstThe first player in the list, a bull-off or random. Whoever throws first stops first.
  • UnratedScram leaves your average, your statistics and the leaderboards alone. Sridu only counts your wins.

Tips

How to win at Scram

  • As the stopper, shut the big ones first. The 20, 19 and 18 are where the scorer makes the most points. Once they are gone, a treble is worth far less.
  • Aim at the fat single. With one hit to close, any part of the number will do. The big single bed is the safest target on the board.
  • Don’t leave the bull too late. It is the smallest target, and every visit you spend chasing it at the end is another visit for the scorer.
  • As the scorer, go for the highest open treble. Keep an eye on the neighbours too: when the 20 is closed, the 1 and the 5 next to it may still score.
  • New to it? Start with the Cricket numbers and a round limit. Stronger players can try three marks on the whole board.

FAQ

Questions about Scram

Does a double or treble close a number faster?

With the default rule, no: any hit closes the number at once. With three marks, a double counts two marks and a treble three, just like in Cricket.

Does the bull count?

Yes. The bull is one of the targets. The 25 and the bullseye both close it, and the scorer gets 25 or 50 points for it while it is open.

What happens if both totals are the same?

The leg is drawn and counts for nobody. In a match over several legs the next leg decides it. In a single leg the game ends as a draw.

Can three or more people play?

Yes, in two teams. Each team is one side and shares one total, and its players take turns. Scram has exactly two roles, so there are always exactly two sides.

Can I play Scram online or in a tournament?

Not yet. Like the other mini games for two, Scram is played at one board, against a friend or a bot.
