JDC Challenge

The JDC Challenge is the skills test of the Junior Darts Corporation, the junior darts academy. You throw 57 darts in three parts: Shanghai on 10 to 15, one dart at every double and the bull, then Shanghai on 15 to 20. Sridu adds up your total and gives it a JDC grade, from white to black.

  • Play alone for a record or side by side with friends or bots
  • The three parts under the board, each with its points and a progress bar
  • Your grade so far in its shirt colour, updated after every dart
  • Always the same 57 darts, so every total compares with the last

The rules

How the JDC Challenge works

19 visits of three darts, and every dart has a fixed target.

  1. Shanghai on 10 to 15Three darts at each number from 10 to 15. Only that number counts, at its full value, so a treble 12 is 36. Hit its single, double and treble in one visit and you get 100 on top.
  2. One dart at every doubleThen it’s D1, D2 and D3 in one visit, D4 to D6 in the next, and so on up to D20 and the bullseye. Each double is worth 50, the bull 100.
  3. Shanghai on 15 to 20Part three works like part one, on the numbers 15 to 20. The 15 comes up twice.
  4. One total, one gradeEverything adds up to a single total, with 3,380 the most possible. Your total gets a JDC grade, a colour from white to black.

Parts one and three

What a Shanghai visit brings

Four visits and their points. The bonus comes on top of what the darts score.

  1. Target12
    1. 12+12
    2. D12+24
    3. T12+36
    Shanghai +100+172

Single, double and treble in one visit: 72 points plus 100. The order doesn’t matter.

  2. Target12
    1. T12+36
    2. T12+36
    3. T12+36
    +108

Three trebles bring 108, a lot less than the Shanghai. On these numbers the bonus is worth more than any treble.

  3. Target12
    1. 12+12
    2. D12+24
    3. 5off target
    +36

Only the 12 counts. The 5 next to it scores nothing, and without the treble there is no bonus.

  4. Target20
    1. 20+20
    2. D20+40
    3. T20+60
    Shanghai +100+220

The best visit of the test: 120 points plus 100 on the 20, the last number of part three.

The same three rings win a leg on the spot in Shanghai, where you go round the numbers against other players.

Each dart has its own target: the first at D1, the second at D2, the third at D3. A miss stays a miss, the next dart already goes at the next double. Only the bullseye counts for the bull, not the outer bull.

Want more darts at each double? Bob’s 27 gives you three per double, and a round without a hit costs you points.

Grades

In the game

What you see on screen

The target of the dart in your hand is the big one in the middle, the three parts sit under the panel.

  • The target: the number of the visit in the Shanghai parts, the double of the next dart in part two. Only the fields that count light up on the board.
  • Every dart gets a label: +24 when it counts, off target when it doesn’t.
  • The hint line: Only this number counts. Single, double and treble: +100 in the Shanghai parts, One dart per double: 50 points, the bull 100 in the doubles. After a Shanghai it reads SHANGHAI! +100.
  • The three parts: each with its points and a bar that fills visit by visit, the part you are in highlighted. Below them you see your grade so far, for example So far: Purple, with its colour.
  • The big moments: every Shanghai gets a callout with confetti, and the caller announces the points of each visit.
  • At the end: your points, your grade and how many of the 21 doubles you hit. The stats next to the panel also count your Shanghais.

Setup

Start a run

You’ll find JDC Challenge among the training games on the play screen, or you can search for it by name. There is nothing to set.

  • SettingsNone. The test is the same every time, so your totals stay comparable.

  • RecordYour best total is kept as your record for the JDC Challenge.
  • Who throws firstThe first player in the list, a bull-off or random.

Tips

A better grade

  • Always go for the Shanghai. On every number from 10 to 20, single, double and treble plus 100 beat three trebles. On the 12 that is 172 against 108.
  • Aim at the ring you are missing. With the single and the treble in, your last dart goes at the double. Even a small double with the bonus is worth more than another treble.
  • Shanghai gone? Go for the treble. If two darts land in the same ring or miss, the bonus is out of reach for this visit. Then only points count, and the treble brings the most.
  • Take the doubles one at a time. Each dart has its own double and a miss gets no second go. Forget the last one and settle on the next.
  • The bull is worth two doubles. The last dart of part two goes at the bullseye for 100. Only the inner bull counts.
