All Fives

All Fives is the old pub game also known as Fives or 51 by Fives. Add up your three darts: if the total divides by five, you score a fifth of it. Anything else scores nothing. The first player to land exactly on 51 wins.

  • Two or more players, bots welcome
  • Play to 31, 51 or 61

  • Unrated, so it never touches your average

+17 points

A race to exactly 51. Anna’s last dart misses the board, so her 75 counts nothing. Ben needs a 1, 6, 11 or 16 with his last dart, hits the 6 and makes 85: 17 points. Drawn the way the app shows it.

The rules

How All Fives works

Big scores help, but only the ones that divide by five.

  1. Make a fiveAdd up the three darts of your visit. If the total divides by five, you score a fifth of it: 60 is 12 points, 45 is 9, 100 is 20.
  2. Anything else scores nothingA total of 62 or 79 brings no points at all, however good the darts were.
  3. Every dart has to scoreIn the classic rules all three darts must land in the scoring area. One dart off the board and the whole visit is void.
  4. Land exactly on 51The first player to reach exactly 51 points wins the leg. A visit that would take you past it counts nothing, so the last few points take care.

Examples

What a visit brings

Five visits and what they are worth with the classic rules.

    3. 20Dart 3
    Total100+20 points

100 divides by five: a fifth of it is 20 points.

    1. 19Dart 1
    2. 19Dart 2
    3. 7Dart 3
    Total45+9 points

Three singles can make a five too. 45 brings 9 points.

    2. 1Dart 2
    3. 1Dart 3
    Total6262 doesn’t divide by five

62 doesn’t divide by five, so the big treble was for nothing.

    1. T20Dart 1
    2. T20Dart 2
    3. 0Dart 3
    Total120Void

One dart off the scoring area and the whole visit is void, even though 120 divides by five.

    2. 20Dart 2
    3. 5Dart 3
Total85Over 51, the visit counts nothing

At 47 you need exactly 4 more. 85 would bring 17, which is too many, so the visit counts nothing.

The last dart

Make the total a five

After two darts it is simple arithmetic: the last dart has to fill the gap to the next five. Sridu works it out for you and shows the numbers that do it.

T20 and 19 make 79. The last dart needs a 1, 6, 11 or 16 for a five, and the hint line lists them for you.

Settings

Three settings to play with

The defaults are the classic pub rules. Change them for a quicker or a more forgiving game.

  • Points to win31 · 51 · 61
    1. 31
    2. 51
    3. 61

51 is the classic. 31 makes a quick game, 61 takes a little longer.

  • Finish exactlyOn by default
    Ben474 to go
    T20 · 20 · 5 = 85+17
Over 51, the visit counts nothing

On: you have to land exactly on the target, and a visit that takes you over counts nothing. Off: reaching the target is enough.

  • A dart off the scoring areaVoids the visit
    1. T20Dart 1
    2. T20Dart 2
    3. 0Dart 3
    Voids the visit0Counts as 0+24

The classic: every dart has to score, or the whole visit is void. With Counts as 0 the visit still counts if its total divides by five.

In the game

What you see on screen

The total of your visit is the big number in the middle, next to what it brings.

  • The total: it adds up dart by dart. Once it divides by five, the points it would bring appear next to it, for example +17.
  • The hint line: before your first dart it reads Make the total divide by five. After two darts it tells you what the last one needs, for example Last dart for a five: 1 · 6 · 11 · 16 …
  • After the visit: +17 points, 62 doesn’t divide by five, A dart off the scoring area, the visit is void or Over 51, the visit counts nothing.
  • Your score: every card shows the points and how many are still to go.
  • A wrong dart? Tap its chip and correct it, as in every other mode. The total and the points update with the correction.

Tips

How to score more fives

  • Start on the 20, 15, 10 and 5. Two darts on these numbers always leave a total that a 5, 10, 15 or 20 finishes off.
  • Plan the last dart. After two darts, look at the last digit of the total. Ending in 4 or 9 needs a 1, 6, 11 or 16. Sridu shows the list, but knowing it saves time.
  • Keep every dart on the board. With the classic rules a wild dart costs you the whole visit. A safe single is worth more than a risky treble.
  • Slow down near the end. With finish exactly on, 4 points to go means a total of 20, so a big visit is no use. Aim at singles.
  • Good practice for counting. You add up every visit in your head, just as you do for checkouts.
  • More adding up. 21 Blackjack keeps the counting but changes the goal: get to 21 with your darts without going over.
