Follow the Leader
In Follow the Leader darts the player before you picks your target. Hit exactly that field, and your next dart sets the field for the player after you. Miss it with all three darts and you lose a life. The last player with a life left wins.
- Two or more players, bots welcome
- 1 to 10 lives, shown as hearts
- Exact field or whole number, free start or Big Six
- Unrated, so it never touches your average
- 19missed
- T19hit
- D16sets the field
New field: D16
The rules
How Follow the Leader works
Every visit has two jobs: hit the field you were given, then set a new one.
- The opener sets the first fieldThe leg starts on an empty board. The first dart the opener lands on the board is the first field, whether that is a single, a double, a treble or a bull.
- Hit it within three dartsThe next player has three darts to hit that exact field. A treble 19 has to be answered with the treble 19. The single 19 is a miss.
- Your next dart sets the fieldAs soon as you hit it, the dart after that sets the field for the next player and your visit is over. If you only hit it with your last dart, the field stays as it is.
- Miss and a heart breaksNo hit in three darts costs a life. So does a setting dart that misses the board. Lose your last life and you are out. The last player standing wins the leg.
An example game
How a field travels round the room
Five visits, three players. Each card shows the field the player had to hit, their darts and what came of it.
- Open the legFreeAnna
- T19sets the field
The leg starts on a free board. Anna’s first dart that lands on the board sets the field.
- To hitT19Ben
- 19missed
- T19hit
- D16sets the field
The single 19 doesn’t count, it has to be the treble. Ben hits it with dart two, so dart three sets the next field.
- To hitD16Cleo
- 16missed
- D8missed
- 0missed
Three darts, no double 16. Cleo loses a life and the field stays for the next player.
- To hitD16Anna
- 5missed
- 16missed
- D16hit
Anna only hits it with her last dart. She keeps her life, and Ben has to hit the double 16 too.
- To hitD16Ben
- D16hit
- 0off the board
Ben hits it at once, but his setting dart misses the board. That costs a life as well.
Why the setting dart matters: it is the only dart that can cost you a life even after a hit. Going for a double to set a nasty field is tempting, but a dart just outside the double ring is off the board.
Setting · What counts as a hit
Exact field or whole number
The classic rule wants the same number in the same ring. Switch to whole number and any part of the number counts.
- Exact fieldDefault
- T19hit
- 19missed
- D19missed
The same number in the same ring. A treble has to be answered with that treble, and the bullseye with the bullseye. This is the classic rule.
- Whole numberEasier
- T19hit
- 19hit
- D19hit
Any part of the number counts, so the treble 19 is answered with any 19. On the bull both bulls count. Good for beginners and mixed groups.
Setting · First field
Free start or Big Six
Big Six is Follow the Leader with a fixed opening: every leg starts on the single 6.
- FreeDefault
The leg starts on an empty board. The first dart the opener lands on the board sets the first field, so a strong opener can make it hard straight away.
- Big SixVariant
Every leg opens on the single 6, the same for everybody. Hit it, then set the next field. This is the pub game Big Six.
Big Six has its own entry in the app’s game search. Open Big Six and Sridu sets the first field to the single 6 for you.
In the game
What you see on screen
The field to hit is the big label in the middle, and the board on screen lights it up.
- The field: To hit sits above it. Once you have hit it, the label changes to Set the field, and the new field appears as soon as your dart lands.
- The hint line: it reads Hit exactly T19, then Hit! Your next dart sets the field, New field: D16 or Off the board, life lost.
- Your darts: each chip says what the dart did: hit, missed or sets the field.
- Hearts and hit rate: every card shows its lives as hearts, and under the name how often that player hit the field they were given.
- A wrong dart? Tap its chip and correct it, as in every other mode. Lives and the field update with the correction.

Tips
How to stay in the game
- Set trebles, not doubles. A treble that misses still lands on the board. A double that misses on the outside costs you a life.
- Know your opponents. Give the player who loves the 20 a field on the left of the board, the 11, the 14 or the 8.
- Aim for the field, not the number. With exact field on, a fat single is a miss. Line up on the ring you need from the first dart.
- Mixed group? Switch to whole number, or give beginners a few extra lives as a handicap. The game stays tense for everyone.
- Use it as doubles and trebles practice. Your opponents keep picking awkward targets for you, and not one dart counts towards your average.
