Support & licence

Sridu is free. Keeping it running isn’t.

Sridu is made by one person in their spare time. There is no company behind it, no investor and no subscription. If Sridu gives you good evenings at the board, a donation is the best way to say thanks and keep it going. Any amount helps, once or every month.

Where the money goes

Honest numbers

A lot of Sridu was written with AI coding assistants. That made it possible for one person to build it at all, but it isn’t free either. So far Sridu has cost several hundred euros, and the running costs carry on every month. What came of it so far, 200 versions since August, is in the changelog.

  • Test hardware Cameras, lights, boards and mounts, so the scoring works on real setups and not just in the demo.
  • Server and domains play.sridu.com, the lobby, the leaderboard, the connection service for online matches and this website.
  • Studio voices The recorded caller in English, German and Dutch.
  • AI tools The subscriptions that most of the development runs on.

Training AI models on Sridu’s code, or rebuilding Sridu with AI from its codeNot allowed

Does it cost anything? That depends on what you have in mind. A pub with one board is different from a tournament weekend or a shop selling camera kits. Write a few lines about your plans and we’ll work something out. Often it’s less than you’d think.

Questions

Good to know

Will Sridu stay free?

Yes. Scoring, every game mode, online matches and self-hosting stay free for private use and for clubs. Donations are a thank-you, never a condition.

Can I get a donation receipt?

No. Sridu is run by a private person and isn’t a registered charity, so donations can’t be deducted from tax.

Is Sridu open source?

Not in the strict sense. You can read, change and host all of the code, but the licence rules out commercial use without permission. That makes Sridu source-available. The full terms are in the LICENSE file that comes with every copy of the app.

I stream my games and earn money with my channel. Is that fine?

Yes. Showing, reviewing and streaming Sridu is allowed, monetised channels included. A link to sridu.com is appreciated but not required.

Our club charges a small entry fee for its tournament. Do we need to ask?

Not if the fee only covers the costs and the tournament is for your members. For a public tournament, or one with sponsors or prize money, please get in touch first.

Something in Sridu doesn’t work. Who do I tell?

Use Report a problem in the app. It goes straight to the people who build Sridu, with the technical details filled in. Report a problem explains what to write and what is sent along.

I’m writing about Sridu. Is there a press kit?

Yes. The press kit has short texts about Sridu, the logo and icon as SVG and PNG, a screenshot and the brand colours.
